There are two types of hypertensive crises:
Both require immediate attention!
Appropriate course of action is determined by status and symptoms of organ function
chest pain, shortness of breath, back pain, numbness/weakness, change in vision or difficulty speaking

Hypertensive Urgency:
BP is 180/120 or greater (repeatedly), you are NOT having symptoms of target organ damage.
Same reading or higher after 5 Min.

Hypertensive Emergency
BP is 180/120 or greater, you AREÂ having symptoms of target organ damage!
DO NOT WAIT! Call 911

Keep in contact with your primary care provider!
Take your medications as prescribed!
Take and track your blood pressure regularly!
