The federal government shutdown, which started on October 1, 2025, may cause delays in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits for November.

October SNAP benefits went out as normal, but starting October 29, new SNAP payments will pause. November benefits will not be added to EBT cards until the shutdown ends and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) gives approval for benefits to be sent out again.

Any SNAP money already on your EBT card will stay there and can still be used. SNAP funds stay active for nine months after they are added.

What You Need to Know

  • Only SNAP is affected right now.

Other programs like Aid to Dependent Children (ADC), Aid to the Aged, Blind, and Disabled (AABD), Low-Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP), and Refugee Resettlement (RRP) will continue as usual.

Payments to Child Care providers, Social Services to the Aged and Disabled (SSAD), and Medicaid providers will also continue.

  • You don’t need to do anything right now.

Once the shutdown ends and funding starts again, SNAP benefits will be sent automatically.

  • DHHS staff are still here to help.

You can still apply for SNAP, renew benefits, and report any changes during the shutdown.
